Know Your Roots

Fairmont High School was established in 1876. Loop Park has been the campus of FSH since 1928. The main building on campus was added to the National Register of Historic Places in March 2002.

In 1907 Frank Ice was appointed as athletic coach of all sports (football, baseball & basketball). The teams took on the title of "Ice's Men."

In January 1926, "Biz" Dawson entered Fairmont Senior as the new football coach. The problem then arose to choose a new mascot. Eagles, Panthers & Tigers were suggested, but using a play on word "ice," the name Polar Bears was adopted. Royal Blue & White were chosen as the school colors. In 1955, Dunbar High integrated with Fairmont Senior. In 1968, St. Peter's High School (Fairmont Catholic) closed. In the fall of 1985 Rivesville consolidated with Fairmont Senior and a touch of red was added.
